In the story where Tom was found guity beating and raping Miss Mayella even when all the evidence was pointed to Mr. Ewells, was very realistic because event though every one on the jury new Mr. Ewells was guily of beating Mayella the jury still said he was not guily because he was white and Tom was black. This really made everything more relistic because it made me realize how racist people were back then. Tom physicaly could have not beaten Mayella because he has no movement in his left hand and all the bruses were on her left arm. This made it impossible for Tom to do such a thing but they still found him guilty because he was black.
I think the relationship between Scout, Jem and Atticus is interesting because they dont call him dad they call him Atticus. This was really confusing at first becacause it never really sad why they do that so i had to think really hard about this. This is interesting because i think it is either a way to show respect for him and that they don't have the normal family. They dont have a mom so i think they just don't use those terms "Mom" and "Dad". Atticus is also a highly respected adult in the comunity. This was just very interesting because the author never truly told why the kids do that.
If i could become any character in this book, i would be Atticus because he is very insparational and not like many characters in this book. He went against everyones opinion and defended a black man who was acused of raping a white woman. This was huge back then. He chose to to what was right even though he was getting harrased and even his kids were getting picked on. I really respect him for this. He also shows great love for his kids and teaches them to do the right thing. Even though he is a single parent and is normally gone he makes sure his kids are safe and looked out for. He helps Scout mature over the time of the book and is really a good dad.
